Wednesday Night Tales : Sam Miller on a shot clock

It’s 2:00 AM Sunday Morning, and I am sitting in front of my PC thinking about what happened this past Wednesday Night and how it is something to be shared and documented!

This post is about One person Sam Miller – Owner of Armed Bandit Publications | His Book : https://shorturl.at/BBd4P

For those of you who do not know, Sam Miller is a young kid, who lost his hand in an accident.

The Tournament:

Chip Tournaments are my least favourite as a tournament director, because of the hassle to run them, the unavailability of a perfect software that would allow running this format and because I get the least number of chips which makes it very difficult for me to win!

Nonetheless, this is the most popular format and we get a full field every time.

This past Wednesday, on our regular Wednesday Night Chip Tournament, we found ourselves in a certain situation, at around 11:30 p.m. when the bar staff was ready to go home, we were still playing for 3rd place. With no choice left, we put the players on a 40 second shot clock. Becasue we wanted to crown the first place player!

What happened next was pure magic.

Sam Miller – Our one-armed player – stepped up and delivered exceptionally, when it mattered. With Barrie holding onto his last chip, Sam proceeded to run the entire table under the clock.

When I first watched Sam play, I tried to replicate his unique approach and failed miserably. He’s developed his own style, adapted his technique, and turned what others might see as a limitation into a competitive advantage through repetition and practice and above all determination to make it happen.

Sam is an inspiration and defines competition. This is what happens when skill, mental toughness, and refusal to accept limitations collide under pressure. Out of the 4 wednesday night tournaments he has played in, he cashed in 3 of them.

As always, thank you to all the wednesday night players, for coming out week after week to compete and to have fun!

Thanks a ton to the two beauties [Inside Out] Susie Reavley and @Stanislava for greeting us all with a smile and serving us all of these nights and more! 🙂

Thank you to Vlounge, @Brad Service, and @Dana / @Christina for letting us run these tournaments.

@Dan Buchanan and @Ron Deleeuw and Dad (Manohar Hemnani) for taking the time to run and help with these tournaments.

A heartfelt note from Sam Miller

For a long time, I thought I knew what life was all about and what mattered the most. I was very, very wrong. As I faced new challenges and overcame them, I started to realize what was important to me. I was then able to make an educated decision on what would really make me happy. There is no shame in failure and trying again. It is almost always the determined people who get what they want.

You have to stay strong!

About Sam’s Book: This is a story about me and my favorite companion and snuggle buddy (Bob – The Female Cat). Most of us know, the love for an animal can be very strong. Bob has been there for me through the good times and the bad. Good or bad, she is always purring and rubbing her face into mine. Animals can be very reliable for their love. Life is amazing and should always be appreciated. Sometimes I’ve found myself ready to give up and stop trying, and have said things like “I don’t think I can” or “I don’t think it’s worth it.” I didn’t always know what support is available because I didn’t reach out and ask. When I understood my feelings and became aware of how they affected others, I was able to offer something special.

About Sam’s Accident::

On a certain Friday night ,on his way to a fishing trip with a couple friends, Sam Miller was involved in a serious accident with a semi truck carrying a house. There were no guides accompanying the oversized load that was well over the centre line of the highway. After the collision, the semi truck stopped, could see they had caused an accident and fled into the night. During the collision a solid beam from the house hit Sam directly in the arm, inches away from his heart.
