2026 Sweethearts Tournament – A Victoria Tradition Continues

The Victoria Ladies 8-Ball League hosted their annual Sweethearts Scotch Doubles tournament on Valentine’s Day – a tradition started decades ago by Del Oliver and Ken Oliver, now proudly carried forward by the ladies league.

19 couples (38 players) competed [The Most so far] , with Fargo ratings spanning 235 to 670. While Victoria was well represented, teams traveled from Sooke, Cowichan, and Saanichton to compete.

3rd Place: Ingrid Botha and Bruce Lortie

Ingrid and Bruce navigated a tough bracket – defeating Chris C and Cassidy M, Matt H and Elsie J, and Lala T and Shawn J to reach the hot seat. After falling to the B side against Kim West and Shred H, they fought back before Lala T and Shawn J took them out on the hill in the rematch.

2nd Place: Lala Tran and Shawn Jacobs

Lala is definitely a key ingredient for scotch tournaments and has often placed well in scotch tournaments, including in sweethearts with Manjit. Shawn and Lala won several hill-hill matches but came up short at the end.

Finals: Kim West and Shred H defeat Lala T and Shawn J

Kim and Shred dominated the tournament, losing only 6 games across 6 matches. They very recently also won the Santas Anonymous tournament in similar fashion

Their combination of upgraded equipment and genuine partnership elevated their play throughout the event. They earned their names on the Sweethearts Trophy with a commanding performance against a deep field.
